Using RSS Feeds filetype:rss

Almost once a month I get question on RSS, what it is, how to read rss feeds and should I use rss. This blog answers this question. First let’s start with what it is:

What is RSS?

RSS is a technology that allows millions of web users around the world keep track of the latest information on their favorite websites. If you use bookmarks to revisit your favorite websites, chances are you are wasting time. You may visit a site only to find no new updates. Or you may miss a critical piece of information because you didn’t visit the site in time.

How do I RSS?

There are various RSS readers – web based and desktop based for you to choose from. Top RSS readers are Google Reader and Bloglines. By using an RSS reader you can subscribe to all your favorite blogs and feeds. When the feed is updated you can preview the latest information. Better yet you can search for keywords across your feeds to see relevant information you are searching on, from sites you trust. You can reduce email clutter and read your feeds on your feed schedule! This can be addictive if you have a hundred feeds you are subscribed to. Here is a video on how to use Google Reader for your RSS Reading.
