While I had contained my email spam problem, recently someone asked me how I manage Drupal comment Spam, as they got 45 spam messages over a few minutes. It is a fact, as your blog ages, you attract higher spam comments.She was expecting me to solve her problem, when I told her that I use a sophisticated Drupal SPAM module and I then moderate the comments.

Over two weeks, I have upwards of 250 comments, 95% of them are SPAM even with the Drupal spam module. Many times I don’t have the patience to find out  the actual human comment, that I have deleted everything – I totally apologize to many Online business owners who have commented earlier that I had to delete, because of my inability to sort through 99% spam with all these tools. For a while I had only authenticated users comment, which was a relief, except that it makes it difficult for a person to comment.

Earlier, I tried the Drupal akismet module, only to find similar results.Both akismet and the spam module work based on comment moderators reporting known spammers, and building a list of known spammers (IP address, domains, etc). Currently there appears to be more new spammers, or better spamming tools than what the comment moderators network has at thier disposal.

In dire frustration, I looked around and I found the re-captcha module for Drupal. Rob Loach has an excellent video on the various Drupal spam management modules, that you can watch below.I am happy for any human comments to go up, provided they are relevant to article.

With re-captcha module, I am moving out of the comment moderation business.
